So ive always had this 'irrational' fear of being framed or convicted of a crime I didnt commit. It was one of those things that even thinking about it totally freaked me out, even though I knew it would never happen.
Well anyways I was cleaning the office tonight and I got a call from my dad. He asked me if I had gotten into an accident in my explorer, which was a really weird question, because the answer was no. He told me an officer had called the house looking for me, and was going to call me. my phone started beeping with an incoming call. I didnt answer cause i was still talking to my dad and I missed the call. A few seconds later I hear a pounding on the back door. I assumed it was a cop and I went and answered. He asked me to step outside and asked me when the last time I was in a car accident with the explorer. I told him that last year a deer ran into my car and before that my cousin had owned the car he had got in an accident in the car, but it was like.. 6 years ago.
He told me he didnt believe me, and through out the conversation I found out there there had been a hit and run, the car that had left was a gold ford explorer and that it had driven over some grass into the parking lot that my car happened to be parked while I was inside cleaning. Incase you dont know, I drive a gold ford explorer. And to make matters worse, the two accidents I mentioned earlier left some pretty decent dents on the passanger side of my car, which happened to be the side that this hit and run car would have had dents on. The cop looked at the old dents and scratches and basically called me a liar and said there was no way they were over a year old, and that they were fresh. He also looked at the side of my tire and kept saying how it had obviously been rubbed up against something and that it was fresh. Well. I started freaking out because they had all this evidence that pointed directly at my car! I was so scared, even though I knew I hadnt done anything. And to make matters even worse, I had randomly decided to parrallel park my car next to the curb, so my car was even facing the right direction it would have been if I had been the driver of this hit and run. I was seriously so upset, because this cop was SO convinced that he had found the right person. He pretty much called me a liar and said stuff like "The victim in the other car is injured. She is at the hospital right now" tyring to make me feel bad and admit I had done it. and he wouldnt shut up about how the dents and scratches on my car and wheel were 'fresh'. He seriously said it atleast 10 times. I kept telling him I had hit a dear a year ago and but he said he had talked to my dad and that he said I had never had an accident in it, which my dad tole me later wasnt what he had told the cop when he had called. I told him to call chuck since he was in the car when it happened and the cop just wouldnt. So I tried to tell him to call Chuck or his dad since I had been at his house maybe 30 minutes earlier, but he wouldnt tell me when the accident had happened so I didnt even know if that would have helped and he refused to call anyways. It was so frustrating.
Finally a 4th cop pulled up, and he starting comparing the tred on my tires, and he had a little peice that had fallen off of the real car that had done it, and of course neither of them matched my car. The cop that had been so sure it was me started to try to make jokes about it, but at that point, I had been standing outside in the freezing snow getting drenched and accused of a hit and run for about 20 minutes and wasnt really in the mood.
My day wasnt all bad though! Kira had her baby! I am now an aunt! Kaden Scott Mathewson was born at 1:15 pm. 7Lbs 14ounces and 20 inches long. He has A LOT of hair. and its so long! He is adorable! I cant get enough of him. I even went back to the hospital just so I could hold him :) I think he is the greatest! Congrats Kira and Scott.
What a jerk. I'd be pissed if he was trying to make jokes after accusing me.
ReplyDeleteAnd Kaden was adorable. Congratulations Kira and Scott.
I'm really pissed for you at that cop. I've probably got pictures with that car somewhere in the background and dates to prove that the dents are old. Stupid. Grr. I can appreciate him trying to do his job, but I have to say kudos to him for allowing the real hitter to get that much farther away while forcing you to freeze and be scared out of your mind.
ReplyDeleteWow, I must be in a good mood. I'm glad they sorted it out. I love you sis!
Thinking about it now, he really did have some decent 'evidence' to think it was me, so I dont blame him for what he was saying, he really was just doing his job. It just sucks that he was WRONG.
